B.B. King is one of the most important interpreters of modern blues. With seemingly infinite musical talent and the aid of his gleaming Gibson guitar – which he tenderly refers to as « Lucille » – King developed his very own, distinctive sound over the years. « When I sing, I play Lucille in my mind. And when I stop singing with my voice, I start singing through Lucille. » With great personal autonomy and musical flexibility, King integrates the rhythms and techniques of rock, soul and jazz into his music. He has reigned as the king of the blues guitar for many decades and has influenced generations of musicians.
Riley B. King was born in rural Mississippi in 1925 and grew up in the 1930s during the Great Depression. He launched an inimitable career in the south and rose to become one of the world’s best blues musicians. Since then he has received the highest honors the music industry has to offer. Today, with a career spanning more than 60 years and over 100 recorded albums, B.B. King embodies the essence of the blues.
